The most obvious reason to have your cat spayed or neutered is to help reduce pet overpopulation. There are so many cats that already need good fur-ever homes. There are also many health benefits and advantages to spaying or neutering your cat. Spaying has been shown to reduce mammary cancers and infections. For male cats, neutering can reduce undesirable behaviours, such as spraying, and prevents diseases.

What is spaying or neutering?

Spaying is the common term used to describe the surgical procedure known as an ovariohysterectomy. In this procedure, the ovaries and uterus are removed completely in order to sterilize a female cat. Neutering involves the surgical removal of both testicles.

When should I neuter/spay my cat?

At six months of age, we advise spaying or neutering all cats that are not intended for breeding. Our veterinarians are happy to answer any questions you may have about this important procedure for your pet.

What is the procedure to spay/neuter a cat?

We recognize that having your pet spayed or neutered is a major surgery and a big day for both you and your cat. As responsible pet parents, we know the importance of having the surgery done. Our team will help you every step of the way. During the procedure, a registered veterinary technician continually assesses your pet’s vital signs, and we use several monitoring devices during your pet’s anesthetic.
