ATTENTION US TRAVELLERS: We continue to receive lots of inquiries about the updated travel rules for dogs travelling to the U.S. that take effect on August 1, 2024. You can find the most up-to-date information about the new dog rules on the CFIA website.
Frequent fecal examinations are essential for discovering and treating intestinal parasites.
Since cats are such great hunters, every cat (including indoor ones) are susceptible to parasites. From birds to house flies, there are lots of ways that your cat could be at risk. For cats that aren’t on regular deworming medication, we would recommend a fecal exam to check for parasites.
At South Burnaby Veterinary Hospital, we send out our fecal samples for testing to Idexx Laboratories. There are different parasite screens depending on what our veterinarians are looking for in your cat, and if they have any unpleasant symptoms.
Parasite screening is generally looking for signs of eggs or adult worms in your cat’s stool.
Our staff can advise you on the best method of collecting your cat’s stool. Generally, the litter will not impact the testing. In most cases, we will provide you with a special container for this purpose. No matter what test we recommend, fresh is always best.
Costs vary depending on the test being recommended by our veterinarian. Please contact the hospital for an estimate.
